Sports

RGC actively supports physical development as part of the Sikh ethos to remain physically fit “Tyar Par Tyar” ready upon ready.

Sikh Union Hockey Club

The late sixties and the early seventies saw the arrival into Britain of many Asians from East Africa (former collective name for of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania). Quite a few of these Asians were either keen Hockey players or had a very good Hockey background. Their enthusiasm then followed them to the UK.  Today SUHC has 2 senior teams playing in the East Midlands Premier league.  Under 10’s, Under 15’s and a Girls team.  They have over 50 players and throughout the year they play hockey from professional leagues to summer tournaments.

RGC continues to have a close affiliation with SUHC through Sponsorship, Seva and Community.  We would like to encourage all sangat members to take part in physical exercise and join the club. For more information go to http://www.sikhunion.co.uk/  and for information on membership click here

Vaisakhi in the Park

RGC work closely with SU and SUHC in the famous annual “Vaisakhi in the Park” festival at the War Memorial Park in Coventry.  This event is where physical activity is promoted for adults and children in the form of sport such as Football, Athletics, Weight lifting competitions, Rounders and many more.  This is complimented by Prizes, free giveaways and is a family event for all communities promoting the Sikh concept of ekta (oneness).  If you would like further information please click here.
